How to clear Cookies, Browsing History and Cache on Chrome

The controls to clear your Cookies, Browsing history, cache and other things in Chrome are all stored in the same screen. To get to these controls and choose what you want to clear, follow these instructions.

  1. Open the "Clear browsing data" screen

    On OS X

Click the "Chrome" menu at the top of the screen.

Click the Chrome menu at the top of the screen

Click the "Clear Browsing Data..." menu item.

  2. Choose what to clear, click "Clear browsing data"

You are now presented with a choice of what to clear from Chrome.

Click to select or deselect the items in the list of what to clear.

If you want to "clear your history", you typically want to clear at least the first four items. You may choose to untick items like "Passwords" or "Autofill form data" so that Chrome still remembers the passwords and form data that it has previously saved, but the decision is yours.

You can also use the select field to select how far back you clear. This lets you clear just recently visited items (eg. "the past hour") or your entire browser's history ("the beginning of time").

Once you have made your selection, click the "Clear browsing data" button to clear the items.

Congratulations, you have now cleared your selected browsing data. You can simply close this tab and continue to use Chrome.
