At the top of the Delete browsing data window there are a few choices for the time frame to delete the data from. You don't have to delete your entire browsing history; instead you can choose to delete the data from the Last 15 minutes, The last hour, the Last 24 hours, The Last 7 Days - you can also click the More option which will reveal a menu with the options for The last 4 weeks, or All time.

    What to delete

Chrome gives you a list of checkboxes that let you control what will be deleted; you can choose to delete anything or everything. Click Show more to see the full list of options.

    • Browsing history - The list of web pages that you have visited using Chrome
    • Cookies and other site data - Cookies and other types of data that websites have stored in Chrome to help with browsing (such as Local Storage, Service Worker data, and so on)
    • Cached images and files - The temporary copies of website assets that Chrome stores to help make web pages reload faster
    • Download history - The list of files you have downloaded using Chrome - note that this won't actually delete the files themselves.
    • Autofill form data - The various information you have entered into forms - often things like street addresses and email addresses.
    • Site settings - If you have set custom settings for a website, these will be cleared
    • Hosted app data - Some websites can act like "apps" and will store extra data on your computer.

The settings for clearing search history and saved passwords are handled elsewhere in Chrome; you can click to Manage other data at the bottom of the screen if you want.

  4. Click the "Delete from this device" button

Once you have made your selection of what data you want Chrome to clear, click the "Clear data" button to clear those items.

Still having problems?

Did you have a problem clearing your cache and history? Here are some common problems with solutions:

  • I tried clearing my history but I still have a list of visited sites

You might not have cleared your entire history; in step #3 of this guide, you are shown the Time range field. It's possible that you didn't have this set to All time and instead only cleared the current day or week's worth of history. Try changing this to All time if you want to clear everything.

  • When I fill out a form, Chrome still provides auto-complete suggestions

Make sure that in step #3 you ensured that the Autofill form data checkbox was ticked.
