These days, every major web browser blocks unrequested pop-up windows from opening.
But it didn't used to be like that... (and nor did it need to be!) Pop-ups were once a helpful feature that some websites used to show more information on a website (back in the earlier, simpler days of the internet), but then as the internet got more popular and advertisers started to really take over, some websites started using pop-up windows to display advertisements.
Fortunately, all modern web browsers now block automatic pop-up windows from appearing unless you have changed your pop-up windows settings to allow them to appear. This means it's more enjoyable and less distracting to browse the internet, so this is definitely a welcome change.
