Update Microsoft Edge web browser

This guide will step you through the process of updating your Microsoft Edge web browser. Do you need to know what version of Edge you have?

Newsflash: Microsoft have released a new Edge browser

The original Edge browser was tightly coupled with Windows 10, so previously, to update Edge you needed to update the underlying Windows 10 operating system and Edge would be updated accordingly.

However in 2020, Microsoft have released a new breed of Edge browser - it's more of a stand-alone program than the original versions of Edge. So, to get the latest version of Edge you now need to download it from Microsoft and install it yourself.

You can Download Microsoft Edge from Microsoft's website. Once it's downloaded and installed you'll have the latest version.

Microsoft have stated that they plan to eventually automatically install Edge via Windows Updates, but in the mean time you need to do it yourself. Once the Windows Updates method becomes possible, we'll update the instructions below to show you how to trigger the new version of Edge to check for updates.
